Newcastle United have had a brilliant Premier League start this season, being unbeaten in the four fixtures so far and having a total of 10 points. However, even though the results have been significantly impressive in the club's favor, they haven't been quite convincing, according to many football pundits, including club legend Alan Shearer.
Paul Merson believes that Fulham could break Newcastle's unbeaten streak
Going forward, Eddie Howe's side is set to face Fulham, having a brilliant chance to get to the top of the table, even if it comes temporarily. Considering the form of Harvey Barnes, Sandro Tonali, and Joe Willock, who pulled the game from Wolves, expectations of a win against Fulham, who rank 12th in the PL Table, are significant.
However, Sky Sports host Paul Merson believes otherwise. Not long ago, the former footballer had reflected on Newcastle's performances this season, opining that they have been considerably lucky to have gotten many points without giving their best performance. Recently, once again, Merson expressed similar views, but unlike last time, when he had favored Newcastle's 2-1 win, this time he has predicted that Howe's side might lose the fixture.
Merson believes that given the club's performances, which have been far from satisfactory, luck would only favor them for a short time. Adding to this, he said that the time could come now, and he wouldn't be much surprised if Newcastle gets defeated at the Craven Cottage. Merson mentioned,
"“Sooner or later, these worrying performances will start affecting Newcastle. It wouldn’t shock me if they lose to Fulham at Craven Cottage. The Magpies’ luck could finally run out here.""Paul Merson
Digging it deep, apart from the club's mediocre show, they would be facing a number of issues going into the Fulham fixture. While it has been much clearer that stars like Sandro Tonali, Harvey Barnes, and Willock need to start more, the English manager would have to make quite brave decisions for the upcoming fixture.
Moreover, considering the recent reports according to which Isak's availability for the game might get compromised, Howe would need to brainstorm to find a suitable way to start with Barnes, Gordon, and Murphy as the front three. Clearly, there are a number of issues that would need to be resolved by Newcastle before the game, making their upcoming fixture more important for the season ahead.
