The summer transfer window ended much before, but talks of a high-profile signing have been circling the Newcastle camp till recently. As was evident, the Mapies club failed to land its top 2 prospects, Marc Guehi for the center-back position and Anthony Elanga in the wing role, following which there had been much frustration among fans. Further, recent reports indicate that the club seems out of a potential top signing.

Although the summer window has ended, the Premier League clubs can still get their hands on some of the top free agents available. Adrien Rabiot, after parting ways with the Serie A Giants, has been on the radar of some of the best European names. Even though the ace midfielder's next destination hasn't been decided, it's almost certain that he won't join Newcastle.

In the last, even though Newcastle had been faintly linked with the Frenchman, recent reports suggest that all such possibilities seem scarce now. Speaking on Football Insider's Inside Track, journalist Pete O'Rourke updated about Rabiot's choice, saying that the Frenchman wants to play European football. And Newcastle, after failing to secure a birth in UCL, couldn't offer what the midfielder wants.

Even though Rabiot wasn't strongly connected to a Newcastle move, the Magpies club would certainly have wanted to pursue him if it was possible. Not just being a specialist in the pivot role, but Rabiot's signing could have been utilized by the Newcastle board to reduce the frustration among fans, who have been waiting for a top signing since the last two windows.

However, analyzing from Newcastle's perspective, this update doesn't come that bad. Already having the likes of Sandro Tonali, Joelinton, and Bruno Guimaraes, the Magpies can very well control the game against the best of PL opponents. On top of that, Rabiot's signing, which would have been at a significantly high salary for the star, could have stressed Newcastle's financial conditions.

A major reason why the club didn't stretch for Marc Guehi and Anthony Elanga was Mitchell's strategy to avoid points deduction. In such a scenario, Rabiot's signing could have set the club much behind their dream goal, more on the verge of penalties. Thus, overall, Adrien Rabiot's decision finds well in Newcastle's interest, as they possess significant players for their dream finish.
