Newcastle United have initiated discussions with the representatives of Fikayo Tomori regarding a potential move to bolster their defence. The club is looking to strengthen its backline due to the long-term injuries of key defenders Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles, who are not expected to return until next year.

Newcastle transfer news: Fikayo Tomori to Newcastle

A recent report from Football Insider revealed that officials at St James’ Park are keen to assess Tomori’s interest in returning to the Premier League for the upcoming season. The 26-year-old English international has been a standout player for AC Milan since his transfer from Chelsea in 2021, a move that cost the Italian club £25 million. Tomori's contract with AC Milan runs until 2027, indicating that any transfer deal would need to be negotiated carefully.

Newcastle is set to finalize the signing of Lloyd Kelly from Bournemouth once his contract expires at the end of this month. However, they are still looking to add another centre-back to their squad, with Tomori being seen as an ideal candidate. Kelly, who made 23 Premier League appearances last season, will join Newcastle, adding versatility and depth to their defence.

Tomori has established himself as a regular starter for AC Milan, playing a crucial role in their Serie A title win in the 2021-22 season. Over the past three years, he has made 142 appearances for the club and was a key player in their Champions League campaign last season. Notably, Tomori played the full 90 minutes in both of Milan’s fixtures against Newcastle in the Champions League.

Despite his impressive performances, Tomori was not selected by Gareth Southgate for the Euro 2024 squad, even though he started in an England friendly against Australia last October. This omission has fueled speculation about his potential return to the Premier League, with previous links to Manchester United and his former club Chelsea.
