- Newcastle United considering signing Champions League winning defender Ben Chilwell.
- Chilwell has won the Premier League as well as the Champions League.
Newcastle United want to improve their defence in this transfer window. Last season, the Magpies conceded nearly twice the number of goals in the Premier League as they did in the season before that. Therefore, Eddie Howe's want to bring in a new centre back and are considering signing Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi.
However, even after submitting their fourth bid of around £65 million for Guehi, Crystal Palace are highly likely to reject Newcastle's bid for their rock solid defender. Therefore, the Magpies are considering other central defenders such as Liverpool's versatile defender Joe Gomez. But signing Gomez would cost Newcastle around £45 million as the 27-year-old signed a new five year contract to stay at Liverpool until 2027.

Thus, a better option could be signing a young centre back alongside a new left back to bolster the defence. Currently Eddie Howe's side have only Matt Targett and Jamal Lewis as the left back options in the team. Now, according to a report from Caught Offside, Newcastle are considering the idea of signing Chelsea's UEFA Champions League winning defender Ben Chilwell.
Signing Chilwell this summer is a smart decision for Newcastle United. First of all, Chilwell is 27-years-old and is an experienced Premier League defender with over 150 appearances while playing for Leicester City and Chelsea. Also, the vesatile fullback can play as a left back as well as a left midfielder giving Eddie Howe the option to use different tactics throughout the season.
Further, Chilwell has won the Premier League with Leicester as well as the UEFA Champions League with Chelsea. Thus, his experience will be an invaluable asset for Newcastle who want to perform well in the Premier League as well as the Champions League. Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola has predicted Newcastle to be one of the best teams in the English top flight this season.
