If anybody forget our small local friends Sunderland, then the past week has given us plenty of reasons to remember them. Firstly, they made us feel right at home as we cruised past them 0-3 in the FA Cup and now, they are cropping up again in the Newcastle transfer news.
See, Newcastle were involved in a list of suitors to sign Jordan Henderson, the England international who signed for the Saudi Pro League. Now, in a move which everybody saw coming, Jordan Henderson has had enough and doesn't feel happy at his new club, according to reports.
Newcastle transfer news: Thankfully, Eddie Howe won't sign ex-Sunderland graduate
But thankfully, journalist Alex Crook has stated that it's unlikely Newcastle will sign Henderson because "there’s very little chance of any club matching that salary which is going to make it difficult for Henderson to come back to English football at this moment in time." (via talkSPORT)
Personally, I side with Geordie Boot Boys when they claim that fans would rather sign noone than Jordan Henderson this January. It would be a ridiculous move to bring in an ex-Sunderland graduate and would set us backwards as a club. Other than the fact that he's only going to retire in a few years, we shouldn't resort to such transfers. We are not that desperate.
I mean this as no disrespect to Henderson who has had a marvellous career but he's far from his best and any potential move for a Sunderland academy graduate would, understandably, not sit well with Newcastle fans.
I'm glad this link has been quickly rubbished so we can focus on signing Kalvin Phillips, who is a much better choice for Eddie Howe, even as a loan signing.
