I don't think anybody saw Newcastle transfer news which involves both Arsenal AND Chelsea when they woke up this morning. After all, the Magpies have operated in their own lines until now, with their only real competitors being Juventus for Kalvin Phillips.

Newcastle transfer news: Newcastle aren't afraid to pursue Arsenal and Chelsea target Ousmane Diomande

Well, according to a report from A Bola, Newcastle are showing no restraint in meeting the release clause for Arsenal and Chelsea target Ousmane Diomande. The young centre-back has a clause in his contract which would enable him to leave for a fee of £68.7m - Something Arsenal and Newcastle are willing to meet.

According to the most reliable transfer source, Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are not yet in discussion to sign Ousmane Diomande, but they are interested in signing him. This isn't a surprise, since he has been on the radar of the London club since the summer transfer window. Who knows whether they could add to their insane spending record?

Newcastle could be preparing for the sale of Jamaal Lascelles, as it was recently revealed the club captain was of interest to Turkish sides. Lascelles is ageing and despite doing a terrific job of stepping into help with injury concerns this season, it is about time Eddie Howe moved forward with a new young centre back.

Diomande fits the mould well as he is a colossal, old-fashioned defender who isn't afraid to put his body on the line when necessary to help out his side. This makes him the perfect calibre for Eddie Howe, who could do with defensive improvements as certain displays in the Premier League and Champions League have displayed this season.
