Newcastle transfer news: Fabrizio Romano confirms HUGE Kalvin Phillips boost for Howe
By Kian Long
After their stunning performance at the Stadium of Light, Newcastle fans will hope to be treated to some more positive Newcastle transfer news this week. Eddie Howe must build on the momentum and give the fans and players more reason to smile about with some potential incomings. One of those incoming could be from this weekend's competitors, Manchester City...
It's known that over the last few weeks, both Newcastle and Juventus have been involved in a transfer tussle for the Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips, who is currently surplus to requirements at the Etihad Stadium, particularly with Kevin De Bruyne returning to action.

Newcastle transfer news: Fabrizio Romano confirms HUGE Kalvin Phillips boost for Howe
However, a report from the most trusted transfer source in world football, Fabrizio Romano, has essentially confirmed it's a one-horse race. The transfer expert claimed that Juventus have pulled out of the race to sign Phillips. While Romano did claim that the race was open to more clubs, he only listed Newcastle as the other runners in this race.
In my opinion, Newcastle must capitalise on this opportunity and sign Phillips while they are the frontrunners. While I'm aware it's not this simple as Man City could wait until other suitors come in for a better deal, if we provide them with an impossible-to-reject offer, there shouldn't be complications.
Phillips is a terrific player and he is exactly what we need to fill the hole left by injuries and the Sandro Tonali suspension. He is Premier League proven and has a great experience on the big stage, both domestically and with the England national team.
On that note, he has an incentive to work hard and achieve success between now and the end of the season with us, since there could be a place for him in the England squad for EURO 2024 if he comes to SJP and smashes it.
