Followers of Newcastle transfer news will be aware of one recent phenomenon and that is Eddie Howe's interest in signing a striker. While it remains to be seen which striker he is unhappy with, it doesn't take a genius to look at the Callum Wilson injury history and conclude that a replacement is needed at this point.

With that being in mind, Eddie Howe is looking to combine Alexander Isak with a striker he will be familiar with, since they are countrymen. According to a report by HITC, Newcastle United are interested in signing Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP, with the former Coventry man having a £42m release clause.

Gyokeres and Isak will be familiar with one another since they oftentimes battle it out for a place in the Sweden starting eleven. Both prolific strikers, Isak has the edge with more international appearances despite being a year younger.

That said, Gyokeres would be a terrific addition to the team and is a cheap enough option for Eddie Howe to consider going forward. Boasting experience in England, where he had an impressive time in the Championship with Coventry, he would return to the country with a point to prove in the top flight.

It will be good for the two strikers, Gyokeres and Isak, to bounce off each other while providing healthy competition. Given Wilson's poor injury record, this has sometimes left Isak feeling a little too comfortable (naturally), so bringing in Gyokeres who could provide both goals and minutes to Eddie Howe would be a wise choice.

Newcastle United also have Serhou Guirassy on their wishlist, so the striker pile is building for Eddie Howe, with many great options in the January market.
