Newcastle transfer news: Eddie Howe encouraged to sign talented Chelsea midfielder

Football Fancast have encouraged Eddie Howe to sign Conor Gallagher, who is a former transfer target of Newcastle's. The reasons given are that Gallagher may be looking for a new club since his future at Stamford Bridge is not yet known. Despite Pochettino being a big admirer of the England international, his contract expires at the end of next season and it's yet to be seen whether or not Chelsea are willing to extend his stay in London.

Gallagher is an exceptional player who has matured a lot in the last few seasons. I know it seems bizarre to describe any Chelsea player as a "leader" given their position at the moment but if you had to pick one, it would be Gallagher.

""If Howe needed further proof of why Gallagher would be an invaluable signing for the club in January and for the future, it smacked him right in the face in midweek.""

Adam Scully of Football Fancast

He is an excellent dribbler who carries himself well and he would be a great addition to the Eddie Howe structure. Particularly given the injury crisis which has affected us in the midfield and the Sandro Tonali suspension, he would be a great signing.

However, I must add that the Football Fancast article encouraging Howe to sign Gallagher seems to be optimistic. We are much more likely to sign Kalvin Phillips on loan which would save us a lot of money to stay in line with FFP rules, in my opinion.
