Newcastle transfer news: Callum Wilson injury record could force Eddie Howe to buy a new striker
By Kian Long
Newcastle fans are well aware of the frightening Callum Wilson injury record. Time and time again, we have seen the English striker hit a great run of form, only for it to be halted by another injury scare. This is why, much of the Newcastle transfer news in the buildup to the January transfer window has centred around signing a new striker.
Newcastle transfer news: Callum Wilson injury record could force Eddie Howe to buy a new striker
Indeed, ex-Newcastle midfielder Nobby Solano has pleaded with Eddie Howe to sign a new striker in the January transfer window. According to Express, Solano has stated that Callum Wilson's injury record should be enough to convince Howe to sign a reinforcement in the new year, a striker who can easily play every game in the football calendar.
Admittedly, the extra fixtures haven't helped Callum Wilson this year. However, this shouldn't be an issue for an experienced professional at the top level such as Wilson. Anyway, he is on the brink of being the first-choice anyway, since he is a figure of rotation alongside Alexander Isak.
Wilson is a hard one to dissect. He is an exceptional goal scorer, but he doesn't provide as much to the team in terms of buildup play. Perhaps this is only because we have the luxury of comparison with Alexander Isak, who is the more technically gifted striker of the pair.
Having Wilson in and around the first-team is an exceptional benefit we are proud to boast. However, if January is seen as the cut-off time to sign a new striker to accelerate the club forward, then it's a no brainer that Callum Wilson is the one to go. In terms of a replacement. Serhou Guirassy looks to be the most likely option.
