Newcastle's recent display against Premier League Champions Man City would certainly have boosted their morale much after a series of sloppy performances. With many big names, Anthony Gordon, Captain Guimaraes, and Joelinton returning to form, the fixture had many positives for the Magpies club; however, it came with the injury concerns of two pivotal club stars.
Newcastle's injury concerns increase as two stars are in question for upcoming fixtures
So far this season, Newcastle United has had one of the most injury-inflicted squads in the Top 5 Leagues, with stars like Sven Botman, Jamaal Lascelles, and Callum Wilson injured. Moreover, not to forget, Eddie Howe had to line up his side against Pep's Manchester City without Alexander Isak, who had toe concerns, with Anthony Gordon stepping into his role.
Although the 23-year-old showed an exceptional game-changing display, certainly the club missed star forward Isak. However, now, with two more superstars having to be subbed off in the fixture, the club's injury concerns don't seem to be ending. Moreover, what has been the disappointing fact is that considering the form they were in, they might have further shaped the result in the Magpies' favor.
Italian ace Sandro Tonali, who was looking brilliant alongside Club Captain Guimaraes and powerhouse Joelinton, had to be subbed off in the 78th minute following the star-facing cramps. Similarly, veteran full-back Kieran Trippier, who, despite being dull in the fixture against Fulham, was playing a crucial role against Manchester City's attack force, was subbed off alongside Tonali after he faced leg problems.
As per reports from Northern Echo, the club's medical staff would now assess the fitness of both the star players, who were subbed off after facing problems, against Manchester City. Considering the repute of both these players, midfield ace Sandro Tonali and veteran star Kieran Trippier, the unavailability of any one of them could be serious for Newcastle's season ahead.
However, considering the fact that Newcastle would be up against Wimbledon next, it becomes much easier for Eddie Howe to rest the two, hopefully having not faced serious injuries. For the time being, replacing Tonali with Joe Willock or Longstaff and bringing in Tino Livramento for Trippier could serve the purpose of the club in the Carabao Cup fixture.
