Newcastle United fans are eagerly watching the Newcastle fixture schedule, in the hopes that the Magpies can qualify for Europe. However, with the changing landscape of what each Premier League position means for European qualification, can Newcastle qualify for Europe?

Let's have a look at the possibility...

Can Newcastle qualify for Europe?

Finishing fifth in the Premier League

If Newcastle United finish fifth in the Premier League table, they will qualify for the UEFA Europa League group stages.

Finishing sixth in the Premier League

Currently, Newcastle United sit sixth in the Premier League table.

If Newcastle United finish the season in sixth place, they could still qualify for the UEFA Europa League, on one condition. This condition is that the winners of the English FA Cup have already qualified for UEFA competition through their league position. Only then would Newcastle finishing sixth qualify them for UEL.

If Newcastle United finish sixth in the Premier League table and the winners of the English FA Cup have not yet qualified for UEFA competition through their league position, then Newcastle will qualify for the Europa Conference League playoffs instead.

Finishing seventh in the Premier League table

If Newcastle United finish seventh in the Premier League, they will qualify for the Europa Conference League playoffs if the winners of the Carabao Cup have not qualified for UEFA through their league position. Seventh will not qualify for Europe if sixth becomes the Europa Conference League playoffs spot.

Updated Newcastle fixture schedule

Newcastle United have a good fixture schedule to end the Premier League season, so they will hope to finish the season on a strong note, with the off-chance that factors outside of their control will align to put them in a good European spot.

Here is the updated Newcastle fixture schedule in the Premier League...

Fixture

Date

Crystal Palace (A)

24th April

Sheffield United (H)

27th April

Burnley (A)

4th May

Brighton (H)

11th May

Manchester United (A)

15th May

Brentford (A)

19th May

As mentioned, the only thing that Newcastle United can do between now and the end of the season is to win their remaining games, or at least pick up as many points as possible. What happens in matches involving the teams surrounding them in the Premier League table is out of their control.

To qualify for Europe is the best outcome possible from an underwhelming season. Still, factors out of Eddie Howe's control such as constant injury problems and the Sandro Tonali suspension have halted Newcastle's progress this season.
