For the last couple of weeks, Eddie Howe has been relentless in his praise for Emil Krafth. And rightly so, the versatile defender has been playing well consistently throughout his performances, whether they be as a starter or more often than not, from the bench. With that said, Howe wasn't best pleased to reveal today's Newcastle injury news, which included a potential Emil Krafth injury scare.

The defender was subbed off in last night's EFL Cup match against Chelsea. The less said about the result of that match, the better. He was subbed off alongside Sven Botman, but Eddie Howe has now revealed the reason why both players were subbed off. Quotes by Shields Gazette, Howe said the following:

Newcastle injury news: Eddie Howe reveals the latest on Emil Krafth injury scare

""Sven was planned, 45 minutes was set for him. I thought he did very well and was a real positive. Emil was too sore to continue, has a real gash on his shin which is quite sore at the moment.""

This is not great for Newcastle fans to learn. Not least for the fact that we essentially have a whole squad of players our injured, but particularly when you factor in his shin is close to his cruciate ligament, which is the injury which set Emil Krafth aside for over a year.

Emil Krafth is an exceptional player and a real asset to the team. It was great to see him back as just his presence alone can be enough reassurance for both the players and fans. Although he isn't the kind of player you'd expect to see starting every match, he can certainly do a job as and when required, with his versatility proving to be a real asset to Eddie Howe too. That said, we wish Emil Krafth a speedy recovery and hope he's fit for this weekend's game against Luton.
