It has been a much-known fact that Newcastle United has been failing as a unit, performance-wise, this season. Although the results have gone much in their favor, it is significantly clear that they couldn't rely every time on fate to get points. And when they did so, the result was clearly visible against Fulham, and that is why club legend Alan Shearer had it clear that the side looked awful at the Craven Cottage.

In fact, arguably, Eddie Howe's side dropped one of their worst performances in recent years against Fulham, with most names going silent. After getting dominated 3-1 recently, it is much clear that Newcastle Boss Howe needs quick improvisations, for which Alan Shearer's recent wordings might significantly aid.

The Premier League legend pointed out what has been the club's weakness this season, reducing their overall performance, unlike the last few seasons. Alan Shearer mentioned,

"“If you remember last season and the season before, what Newcastle did really well was they overpowered teams. They pressed teams. They went after teams. We kept on saying about their energy and their fitness.""

Speaking about the intensity and aggression that haven't been seen by the club so far, Howe said,

"“We saw lots of it two seasons ago, and lots of it last season. In terms of this season up to now, the high intensity, pressing, and aggression... I haven’t seen yet. That is a concern.”"

As club legend Shearer has pointed out, Howe's setup this season has definitely looked rather out of energy and has rather failed when they tried pressing upfront. Given the performances of the club's big names, Alexander Isak, Anthony Gordon, Bruno Guimaraes, and Joelinton as well, they don't feel being at the physical levels needed for strict pressing.

Overall, as Alan Shearer has pointed out, the club's lack of intensity has definitely cost them big time and would continue to do so if not worked upon. As is evident from the club's previous success templates, Howe needs to ensure the physicality of his star players at peak to ensure significant pressing upfront.
