Newcastle Icon Alan Shearer gives his honest verdict on their performance against Fulham

Newcastle United's unbeaten streak has finally broken, and while it came in the 5th matchday of the Premier League, it had been predicted much earlier. Clearly, apart from their brilliant 2nd half against Wolves, Eddie Howe's side has never looked at their level best this season. However, so far, they have been fortunate with results, but now it seems that fate isn't able to back them as well.

The Magpies' performance against Fulham, as well as the result, was a much clearer picture of what would have been the club's case had they not been fortunate enough. Once again, the club had to rely on very few players who actually were trying to put up a show for the club. And in the end, Fulham very well deservedly grabbed the complete 3 points at the Craven Cottage.

Soon after the fixture, Premier League legend and Newcastle icon Alan Shearer had his say on the unit's dismal performance against Fulham. Not to forget, Shearer had opined that both clubs might take a point each from the fixture, but as was the result, the PL top scorer had his verdict clear on the game.

As is evident from his message, Shearer was pretty disappointed once again with the club's overall display. In fact, putting the harsh reality into perspective, Newcastle was outplayed in the fixture by Fulham, right from the very beginning. Apart from a few brilliant moments from Harvey Barnes, who pulled up the third goal of the season, and some saves from Nick Pope, the club was always chasing the hosts.

Overall, this result has displayed the club's performance level clearly with most of their big names going silent in the season so far. With this disastrous loss, not only has the club failed on a brilliant opportunity to enjoy the first spot for a while, but it has rather fallen to the seventh position in the PL Table. Going forward, it remains to be seen what Eddie Howe plans for the next fixture after taking key learnings from here.
