Newcastle's start to the new campaign has been brilliant, but the club has been far from their best level. While having an injury-inflicted squad with star players like Sven Botman, Lewis Miley, and Calum Wilson out, the club's mediocre show in the summer transfer window hasn't helped their cause. Even though, as Paul Mitchell mentioned, the way they ended in the window was done to have a secure future, the club's need for squad depth can't be overlooked.
Former Aston Villa forward opines that Eddie Howe should leave Newcastle
On top of that, recently, former English football player Gabby Agbonlahor has made critical comments regarding the Magpies boss's future. As usual, the former Aston Villa forward has been more than ready to spice up regarding Newcastle stuff, opining that Eddie Howe should leave Newcastle United amid links to a national managerial role.
Ever since Gareth Southgate resigned from the position of English manager, reports have surfaced many times, linking Howe to a switch to national duty. Even though the Newcastle boss has claimed that it would be his dream to manage the English national team, as per recent reports, Howe isn't thinking of leaving Newcastle.
On the other hand, Gabby Agbonlahor, speaking to Talksport, mentioned that Howe should leave his managerial role at the Magpies club to make an England move. When questioned whether he would have taken up the role if he were in Howe's place, Gabby replied,
"“I would 100 percent. Because of the frustration [Eddie Howe will be feeling now].""Gabby Agbonlahor
Gabby has mentioned that having a poor transfer window, with Howe being left with a few options for certain roles, the manager should resign. Being unable to bring in the needed reinforcements, in particular Marc Guehi, Gabby believes that Newcastle's squad depth is questionable. In fact, he even went on to make a bold prediction regarding the Magpies club.
Gabby said,
"“I don’t think Newcastle United will finish in the top four. I don’t think their squad has got enough depth in it.""Gabby Agbonlahor
While it is true that Newcastle couldn't end up with their needed signings, making such a claim this early in the season feels inappropriate. Having got off to a brilliant start, with Eddie Howe continuing as the manager, significant chances are that the Magpies club would make it to their dream top-4 finish this time.
