All this summer, Newcastle United have been looking for some major reinforcements in the club's squad. In particular, the Magpies' manager, Howe, has been longing to bring in a high-profile center-back and a winger for their 2024/25 campaign. However, till now, the club has been having one of its most disappointing transfer windows, unable to bring their shortlisted names.

Fabrizio Romano drops a major update on Newcastle's Guehi deal

It has been a much-known fact that the Magpies club has been eyeing Crystal Palace's Marc Guehi as the perfect player for their backline. The 24-year-old's remarkable Euro 2024 campaign has made him a significant prospect for various Premier League clubs, including Manchester United and Liverpool, apart from Newcastle. But, even with just a couple of days left in the transfer window, nothing feels certain about Guehi's future.

Not to forget, Newcastle's attempt for Guehi has been consistent, despite having faced several offer rejections from the London club. As per sources, Crystal Palace is demanding more than £65 million for Guehi, but negotiations haven't been completed between Newcastle and the club. Recently, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano dropped a major update on Newcastle's situation in Guehi's deal.

Speaking to Give Me Sport, Romano hinted at Newcastle's situation, saying,

"“They are close, since the end of July, so close, yes, but it’s not done yet, and the clubs are still talking, are still negotiating, but it’s still not a done deal.""

Highlighting the fact that despite several failures to reach an agreement with Crystal Palace, Newcastle is still in the deal, Fabrizio said,

"“So the conversation is ongoing now; obviously, after having many bids rejected, Newcastle are very careful also in the communication of this story because they’re spending a long time trying to sign the player.""

As it stands, negotiations for Guehi are still continuing from Newcastle camp, with the club viewing him as the perfect fill-in at their center-back position. Not only has Newcastle's defense backline looked mediocre recently, but they don't have sufficient options for the role as well. Thus, the late summer signing of Guehi can resurge a sense of hope among the Newcastle fans for a brilliant season ahead.
