Bruno Guimaraes reveals his dream after becoming Newcastle captain

Before the first Premier League match against Southampton, Newcastle United made Bruno Guimaraes the new captain ahead of the 2024/25 season. Former captain Kieran Trippier is 33-years-old and will be a second choice right back for the Magpies.

Hence, Eddie Howe's side needed a new captain as well to lead the club. Therefore, Brazilian defensive midfielder Bruno Guimaraes has been given the captain's armband by the club. Signed from French club Lyon midway through the 2021/22 season, Guimaraes played a key role in helping the Magpies avoid relegation that season.

In the following season, Bruno Guimaraes and Newcastle United managed to finish inside the top four to qualify for the UEFA Champions League. Now, in his fourth season at the Tyneside club, Guimaraes made 108 appearances for the Magpies scoring 18 goals and providing 16 assists. After becoming the captain, Guimaraes said,

"I want my photo to be in the reception like Sir Bobby Robson, Kevin Keegan, Jackie Milburn.
I want to be a legend like them - but to truly achieve that, we need to lift a trophy."

Guimaraes expressed his dream to become a Newcastle United legend and revealed his ambitions to lift a trophy. In the 2022/23 season, Newcastle were very close to winning the Carabao Cup but were defeated 2-0 by Manchester United in the final.

Newcastle United's last trophy was their FA Cup win over Manchester City in 1955, thus they want to put an end to their long trophy wait by winning a trophy. Hence, Newcastle United are aiming to perform well in the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup this season.
