Newcastle United will invest heavily in the January transfer window. Given the depleted state of the current state amid the injury crisis, Eddie Howe is hopeful about bringing in a few recruits in the new year, to hopefully see the Magpies through to the end of the season.

In truth, nobody is to be blamed for the position Newcastle find themselves in. The recruitment team couldn't have foreseen what was about to happen with the injury crisis and neither could Eddie Howe or the medical team. With nobody to blame, Howe finds himself with the onus of ramping up his efforts in the transfer window but it's a task he simply has to complete.

There are blatant positions of need, for example a midfielder is high on the priority list given the long-term suspension for summer signing Sandro Tonali. Furthermore, given the injuries to key players in the defence, it wouldn't surprise me to see a new defender or two signed in January.

Arsenal release an update on Newcastle transfer target Aaron Ramsdale

Despite the obvious positions of need, there are some areas where Newcastle are linked with a new signing which may come as a surprise, including a new goalkeeper.

Given the situation involving Aaron Ramsdale at Arsenal, it is Newcastle who are mainly being linked with the England shot-stopper. Recently, we reported that Gabby Agbonlahor had linked us with a big move for Ramsdale. It is important to state that Nick Pope isn't getting any younger and given the requirement for a ball-playing goalkeeper in the Premier League, Howe could be eyeing Ramsdale as his go-to guy.

According to a new report by 90min, Arsenal are willing to allow Aaron Ramsdale to leave in the future. However, Newcastle will be out of luck if they want to sign him in January, since Mikel Arteta will only allow his second-choice keeper to leave in the summer. In truth, a summer move would make sense for both clubs.

Do you think Aaron Ramsdale could be a potential Newcastle transfer target in the summer?
