In 2021, Newcastle United saw a major change when Staveley Cantervale Holdings, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), and Jamie Reuben’s RB Sports & Media took over the club. PIF took the biggest share of 80%, Reuben got 10%, and Staveley held 10%. Over time, Staveley’s share was reduced to 5.7% while Reuben’s share grew to 14.3%.

Now, Staveley and her husband, Ghodoussi, are planning to sell their remaining stake in Newcastle United. Reports suggest that they might sell to PIF or RB Sports & Media, or both. An official statement from the club is expected soon.

Even though Amanda Staveley held a small stake, she played a big role in running Newcastle United. She was a key player in the takeover process and helped secure a new four-year deal for midfielder Joelinton after long contract talks.

The sale of their remaining stake will end Staveley and Ghodoussi’s official role at St James’ Park. Since the takeover in 2021, Newcastle United has seen significant changes. The club went from being at risk of relegation to reaching the Champions League in less than two years. Although they missed out on European football last season, they finished seventh in the league and aim to do better this coming season.

Staveley’s decision to sell comes after the club’s latest accounts showed that she was loaned £1.2 million. In November 2022, she received a £600,000 interest-free loan for legal fees, which was still unpaid by June 2023. Another loan of £659,056 was given on 31 August 2023.

Senior club sources have confirmed that these loans will be repaid in full. As Staveley and Ghodoussi prepare to leave, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for Newcastle United under the remaining ownership.
