As we are in the thick of the festive season, Eddie Howe will have his mind fixated on one thing and one thing only - The January transfer window. With that in mind, here are the three Newcastle transfers I would love to see the English boss make in the new year...

1. Kalvin Phillips

The first need which we must address is the midfield department. We are very fortunate that we have a lot of depth in this position as this is where the injury crisis has hit us the most. However, we are walking on thin ice in this department, and the Sandro Tonali suspension doesn't help at all either.

Therefore, I think a short-term loan option for Kalvin Phillips would be ideal. Pep Guardiola has already stated that he would be willing to let the out-of-favour midfielder leave on loan with no obligation to buy, which would be perfect for all parties involved.

We would be bringing in a Premier League experienced midfielder as a quick solution to a very nasty issue in the midfield. From the player's perspective, he would be able to fight for his spot at EURO 2024 since he would certainly get more game time at St James Park than the Etihad. Finally, we would have an option to buy him at a cut-rate on the expiration of his loan deal
