Newcastle United's recent display against the Premier League Champions Manchester City wasn't just crucial for their position on the points table but turned out to be much more soothing for the club fans. After a series of disappointing, sloppy performances, the Magpies Club came much improvised, putting in a brilliant team effort at the St. James.
20-year-old prodigy full-back: The silent hero against Manchester City
Moreover, apart from the important point they added to their name, the fixture was much needed from the Magpies' perspective as it helped many of the big club names to get back to form. With Anthony Gordon shining in his new forward role, Captain Guimaraes looking sharper than before, and Joelinton nearing his best, the fixture turned out to be arguably the best one for the club this season.
However, apart from these big names, who rather got the majority of the limelight, credit needs to be given to the 20-year-old Magpies prodigy, who looked brilliant in the full-back role. Being signed from Chelsea in July for £28 million this summer, Lewis Hall had one of the best fixtures so far as a Magpies player, against Man City.
Facing a star-studded lineup, with the likes of Bernardo Silva, Ilkay Gundogan, and Grealish forming the club's attack, spearheaded by superstar Erling Haaland, it was not easy for the Magpies; however, they managed a commendable job. In particular, Lewis Hall looked brilliant against the seasoned star Bernardo Silva, keeping him quiet throughout the fixture.
In the fixture, Hall made key clearances and interceptions, along with helping on the club's offensive front, being one of their best performers. Recording an amassing 56 touches throughout the fixture, having got dribbled past only once in the process, Hall looked much improvised as compared to his previous games.
So far, there has been significant competition between him and Lloyd Kelly for the left full-back role; however, this display by Hall must've increased his priority in Howe's pecking order for the role. Going forward, Newcastle fans would hope that the prodigy star goes on to continue with such performances, becoming one of the best PL full-backs.
