Newcastle United have confirmed the permanent departure of one of their players to Italian side Juventus.
The move had been expected for some time, but now it’s official and the Magpies have brought in a decent fee from the deal.
This transfer stems from a loan agreement made during the January window. At the time, the player left Tyneside to join Juventus on loan for the second half of the 2024-25 season.
That deal included an option to buy, which would turn into an obligation if certain conditions were met.
Those conditions, as widely reported, were very straightforward.
Newcastle United star complete permanent move to Italian giants
Juventus simply had to stay in Serie A. With that now confirmed, the clause has been triggered and the move is permanent.
The club released a statement earlier confirming the deal.
Newcastle will receive a further €14.5 million on top of the €3 million loan fee already paid, along with up to €3 million in bonuses.
That brings the total deal value to €17.5 million plus potential add-ons according to the statement fro Juventus.
Now 26, the player made just over a dozen appearances in Serie A and played a couple of games in the Champions League as well.
While not a regular starter, he provided solid cover for the Italian giants during his time there.
The player in question is Lloyd Kelly, who only joined Newcastle last summer from Bournemouth on a free transfer.
His stay on Tyneside turned out to be a short one, with injuries and squad depth limiting his impact.
Still, the club have managed to turn a quick profit and free up space for incoming transfers.
This Lloyd Kelly to Juventus deal adds to the funds available for Eddie Howe to reshape his squad ahead of next season, as Newcastle prepare for another push in both the Premier League and Europe.
