Manchester United has been given renewed hope in their pursuit of Bayern Munich forward Leroy Sane as the player's contract situation remains unresolved. Sane, a former Manchester City star, has terms expiring in the summer of 2025, and the Red Devils are keenly monitoring developments.

This season, Sane has struggled for minutes, having played only 78 total since returning from groin surgery. Despite this setback, he has an impressive record of 49 goals and 50 assists in 179 appearances for Bayern since his move to the Bundesliga in 2020.

Interest from Newcastle United

Newcastle United is also interested in Sane, but reports indicate that the 28-year-old is not currently keen on a move to St. James' Park. Christian Falk shared in his latest Fact Files column that discussions between Sane and Bayern Munich regarding a contract extension have been limited, primarily due to his recent injury.

""He’s been on the bench making some minutes, but it’s not the best time for him to talk about a new contract at Bayern Munich. He would like to stay, but Bayern must offer him a contract that he’s willing to accept. He’s currently on €20 million a year.""

If Bayern fails to present a suitable offer, Sane may consider proposals from other clubs. While Newcastle remains interested, it seems they do not yet appeal to Sane as a preferred destination.

Potential future moves

Sane is set to become a free agent this summer, and from January 1, he can negotiate with any club. While Manchester United is not yet in concrete discussions, their interest could position them well in the market if they decide to pursue Sane seriously.

Newcastle fans will be hopeful that Eddie Howe's efforts to return the team to the Champions League could change Sane's perspective. However, this will be a significant challenge given the stiff competition from clubs like Liverpool and Manchester City.

For now, the Magpies can at least take comfort in retaining Anthony Gordon, preventing further weakening of their squad as they navigate a competitive season.
