Newcastle United are preparing for a busy summer transfer window and this time, defense is a priority.

After an injury-hit season exposed a lack of depth at the back, Eddie Howe is determined to bring in fresh legs.

The aim is to sign players who are young, versatile, and ready to make an impact straight away.

Financially, the club is in a stronger place now. Outgoings like Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson have helped ease PSR pressure, giving Newcastle a bit more freedom to strike early in the market.

And they’ve already identified a new target in Spain.

Newcastle United set sight on €40m La Liga defender

According to reports from Fichajes, Newcastle are lining up a €40 million bid for a rising La Liga defender, Jon Aramburu.

The player has impressed with his consistency, speed, and composure in a back four, traits Howe values highly in a modern full-back.

The defender currently plays for Real Sociedad, and while his release clause is set at €60 million, Newcastle are hopeful that a €40 million offer could be enough to tempt the Spanish club into selling.

At just 22, Aramburu has shown maturity well beyond his years. He’s been a key part of Real Sociedad’s backline and is known for his energy, crossing ability, and tough tackling.

He also holds a Venezuelan passport, which makes any potential move to England that bit easier.

Newcastle aren’t the only club watching him, but they’re moving quickly to try and get ahead of the competition.

With Kieran Trippier entering the final stages of his career and Tino Livramento needs support, Aramburu could offer immediate cover and long-term value.

If the Magpies can pull off this deal, it would be a smart bit of business and a clear sign they’re serious about fixing their defensive problems ahead of their return to Champions League.
