Newcastle United have been working behind the scenes to strengthen their attack this summer, with Eddie Howe keen on bringing in another forward.

With questions still lingering around Callum Wilson’s long-term future and Alexander Isak’s fitness record, the club has been eyeing young, dynamic forwards who can grow into the first team.

One player Newcastle had shown interest in fits that exact profile. He has a physical presence up front, good with his feet, and already gaining experience in English football despite his young age.

The Magpies had been monitoring him for weeks, but it looks like they’ve been beaten to the punch.

The striker in question is available for a fee of around £30 million thanks to a release clause following his club’s relegation.

That price tag made him one of the most talked-about attacking targets of the summer window.

Unfortunately for Newcastle fans, that player is Liam Delap, and he’s now heading to Chelsea.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Delap has chosen to join the West London side despite serious interest from Newcastle, Manchester United, Everton and Nottingham Forest.

His decision comes after Chelsea made it clear he’s part of their long-term plans, especially with doubts surrounding Nicolas Jackson’s consistency as a starter.

Delap, who was on loan at Ipswich last season, made a big impression in the Championship with his energy, work rate, and finishing.

He’s still just 21, but his performances have convinced Chelsea to move quickly and agree terms ahead of the competition.

For Newcastle, it’s a missed opportunity but the window is far from over.

The club’s recruitment team will already be looking at other options, and fans can expect more movement in the coming weeks.
