Newcastle United are starting to pick up the pace in the transfer market and this time, they’ve set their sights on a familiar name.

As reported by The Mail’s Craig Hope, the club has opened discussions with Nottingham Forest about a potential move for a Premier League winger who impressed last season.

Talks are said to be at an early stage, but Newcastle have officially made contact. The player is understood to be open to the idea, though no formal bid has been lodged yet.

Newcastle are expected to strengthen their wide areas this summer. While Anthony Gordon has been brilliant, and Harvey Barnes dependable, there’s room for more pace, creativity, and direct goal contributions in Eddie Howe’s attack.

With a return to Europe and more fixtures expected next season, depth is going to be key.

The player in question is Anthony Elanga, the Sweden international who scored six goals and assisted 12 more across all competitions for Forest last season.

He’s just 23 and still developing, but he’s already shown he can trouble Premier League defences with his speed and movement.

Eddie Howe is believed to be a long-time admirer. In fact, we tried to sign Elanga last summer on deadline day but couldn’t get a deal over the line.

At the time, a £35m bid was reportedly turned down by Forest. Now, a year later, The Mail claims it could take more than £50m to sign him.

Forest won’t let him leave cheaply, especially after such an impressive campaign, but Newcastle’s renewed interest shows they’re serious.

Elanga is also the international teammate of Alexander Isak, and that chemistry could be useful if a move materialises.

The thought of the two combining at St James’ Park is certainly exciting. With the window just getting underway, this Newcastle transfer news could be the one to watch.
