Newcastle United aren’t exactly the most formidable club when it comes to the well documented Premier League records. In fact, more often than not, the Magpies crop up on the negative side of historical statistics rather than reigning supreme.
But in the modern age of data, you can almost create any record you want and, as the X account StattyGeezerFC posted today after some thorough and impressive research, Newcastle United have made it to the top of a pretty random one.
According to the stat, the Magpies currently hold the record for the most games adding one goal to their previous tally since all the way back in 1888… I told you it was random.
How Newcastle did it
The stat began back in February of 2025 with the Magpies 2-0 away defeat against Liverpool, which, if you remember, was largely characterised by Eddie Howe changing the play style up in a bid to not give anything away before the Carabao Cup final.
That 0 in the goal scored column then became a 1 with the 1-0 away win against West Ham United, in which Bruno Guimaraes secured a much needed three points after getting his toe on the end of a Harvey Barnes cross.
The next game on the ladder came against Brentford, with the Magpies running out 2-1 winners at St James’ Park as Isak and Tonali got on the scoresheet… oh, how times have changed.
A struggling Leicester City side was then dismantled 3-0 by half time at home, largely courtesy of a Jacob Murphy brace in the opening 11 minutes of the game… oh, how times have changed.

⚽ THE CONSECUTIVE GOAL LADDER: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5!
What's the longest run in English league football where a team scores exactly one more goal in every successive league match?
We are exhausted at Statty HQ as we have trawled through 212,532… pic.twitter.com/czMaj14Kkn
Then, perhaps the most memorable of the games on the list was a 4-1 battering of Manchester United at St James’ which saw Howe’s side at their intense, bullying best in a stormer of a performance.
The final game in the run was a 5-0 drubbing at the hands of Crystal Palace away from home (when was the last time that sort of thing happened on the road?) and completed the Magpies run of adding a goal to their previous tally five games on the bounce, a run that put them top of the chart in that metric across Premier League history.
Most consecutive games scoring one more goal than you did in the last, you’ll never sing that.
