Newcastle United have reportedly agreed a new contract with Lewis hall that the left back is set to sign in the coming days, according to Alex Crook.
The Magpies have been working on a deal with the 22-year-old (happy birthday) for a little while now amid a summer of speculation, but new manager Matthias Jaissle is said to have impressed Hall and been a crucial part in his decision.
It has been clear that one of Newcastle's main priorities was handing out a lucrative new deal to the star left-back and its safe to say Ross Wilson had handled it sublimely if the reports are correct.
Thought he was going to Man United?
Understandably, this summer brought a lot of turbulence to the future of Hall, with Newcastle having to navigate a warzone of rumours amid the departures of other key players.
In fact, if the narratives pushed were to be believed, Hall is actually currently somewhere in Manchester preparing for a midweek visit from Azerbaijani club Sabah FK - but we all know that isn't the case, although maybe telling Manchester United fans that could be a good next step...
The hierarchy at Newcastle retained their stance all throughout the window that Hall was never for sale and there is a very strong argument that keeping him may be the best thing done this summer - especially given their are now rumours a move abroad may materialise for him instead.
Why keeping Hall was, and is, imperative
Of course, we all know about Hall's immense quality in all phases of play which has seen him emerge as one of the best young players in world football never-mind the Premier League.
But it is perhaps the wider impact on the club that losing him could have had that makes it such a big coup to tie him down to a new contract.
Newcastle's list of needs this summer started big, but only grew with the departures of some massive names. The last thing the club needed was to add a starting left back to the mix, especially considering how difficult it would have been to replace a player of Hall's ability.
There's even an argument that Newcastle could have done with bringing in a left back anyway this summer and that the failure to do so has left the club a little light in those full back areas, so goodness knows what it would have been like to lose Hall too.
Not only that but it now puts the Magpies in an exceedingly positive position negotiations wise.
Firstly because it seems Hall has been convinced that the club is once again heading on an upward trajectory, but also because he will be on a hefty chunk more money with an extra few years on his contract.
No more of that nonsense £35m talk Manchester Red were waffling on about this summer. £100m to Barcelona in two years time, please and thank you (that's if he have to sell him of course).
