Newcastle United are preparing for a competitive summer transfer window. And that includes chasing a player who has caught the eye of multiple top-flight rivals.
Eddie Howe is keen to add more firepower to his attack, especially with injuries and inconsistency affecting the team’s scoring options this season. A new forward who can offer goals, flexibility, and experience in the Premier League is on the wishlist.
CaughtOffside now reports that Newcastle have joined a four-way battle for a proven attacker.
The player in question has delivered double digits for both goals and assists this season. While his current club are reluctant to sell, the player is reportedly open to a move – particularly if it includes European football.
The Magpies are not the only side interested. Chelsea are tracking him, although they may only make a formal move if their primary targets fall through. Aston Villa also admire his skillset, while Liverpool see him as a possible replacement option if Darwin Nunez departs Anfield.
Newcastle ready to battle Premier League rivals for in-demand striker
That striker is Joao Pedro of Brighton & Hove Albion.
Pedro, still just 23, has already scored 10 goals and registered six assists this term. His versatility across the frontline and composure in front of goal has made him one of the most talked-about forwards outside the traditional ‘big six’.
Brighton, however, are demanding a hefty fee. CaughtOffside states that the Seagulls want around €60 million for the Brazilian, which could complicate matters.
Still, Newcastle are expected to remain in the race. The chance to compete for Champions League football – and the opportunity to work under Howe’s dynamic system – could be major selling points for Pedro.
With Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson both facing uncertain summers, Newcastle’s interest in another striker makes perfect sense.
The only question now is whether they are ready to outbid their Premier League rivals.
