Newcastle United are reportedly open to selling veteran defender Kieran Trippier, one of their highest-paid players, in the near future. According to former Premier League scout Mick Brown, the club has made the decision to listen to offers for the 34-year-old, as he is no longer a guaranteed starter at St. James’ Park.

Trippier, who joined Newcastle in January 2022, has seen his place in the starting lineup come under threat from young full-back Tino Livramento. With Livramento taking over the right-back role, Trippier’s playing time has significantly decreased. This has led to speculation that the England international might seek a move elsewhere to find regular game time.

Trippier has been linked with a possible move to Saudi Arabia, where several Premier League players have made high-profile switches recently. According to Mick Brown, Newcastle would be open to letting him leave if the right offer comes in during the January transfer window.

"“I’d expect Trippier to leave if that interest is still there, and the right offer comes in. Newcastle would be open to it. Letting him go would free up a significant amount of money on their wage bill, as he’s still one of their highest-paid players.”"

Brown told Football Insider

Trippier reportedly earns £120,000 per week, and Newcastle may see this as an opportunity to free up funds for future signings, especially as they look to build a squad with a focus on younger talent.

For Trippier, a move away could provide the regular playing time he seeks, particularly as he approaches the final years of his career. Sitting on the bench at Newcastle may not be the ideal situation for the experienced right-back, and a switch to a new club could offer a fresh challenge.

With Newcastle aiming to secure European football and compete at the highest levels, the decision to let Trippier go might make sense both financially and tactically. However, it remains to be seen whether a suitable offer will arrive and where Trippier might end up in the coming months.
