Anthony Elanga, Nico Gonzalez and Jacob Ramsey have all been added to Newcastle United's growing injury list ahead of Saturday's Premier League home game against Hull City.
Coming off the back of that rather concerning 4-1 drubbing at the hands of Leeds United yesterday, the last thing Matthias Jaissle wants is to be dealing with some major injuries and a depleted squad - but it appears that is going to be the case.
Newcastle United's injury list
Jaissle admitted after the Leeds game that Anthony Elanga will have an MRI scan on his injury, conceding that it doesn't look good at this stage. That leaves the only right wing option as Jacob Murphy, which we all know could spell disaster by itself.
Nico Gonzalez will also miss the weekend fixture at St James' Park after being taken off under concussion protocol after just 19 minutes at Elland Road. The Premier League rules state that he will now have to wait a recovery period of at least one week, which ultimately rules him out of the Hull game which is just six days away.
Jacob Ramsey also pulled up in the warmup with a thigh issue last night, which Jaissle suggested could well rule him out of the final fixture before the international break.
Add those three to the list of Dan Burn, Joelinton, Will Osula and backup goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen and the selection actually becomes pretty limited for Jaissle, with the squad depth looking far from flattering.
Worst possible timing for Jaissle?
The current state of play is possibly the worst thing that could have arisen for Jaissle after Monday's shenanigans.
There will be an expected bounce-back and Jaissle knows it, but putting that into practice will be much easier said than done with the list of senior names who are missing, and there aren't many in this squad anyway believe me.
Against a side like Hull who will be physical and difficult to penetrate, putting out another young, naive starting XI could well see many of the same issues we have already seen this season arise again... something I'm not sure Matthias Jaissle can afford given the backlash he faced after the Leeds defeat.
