Newcastle brought in Anthony Elanga a few weeks ago as their first major signing of the summer. However, since then, fans have been looking forward to the next big name to be secured by the club. Well, it seems their wait is finally over.

Newcastle had been struggling to bring in a new signing, having lost several of their targets to other clubs. This includes James Trafford, who decided to return to Manchester City despite having a personal agreement with the Magpies earlier, handing them a major blow. However, it looks like Newcastle have successfully moved on and agreed on a deal to sign another keeper in his place.

Earlier, it was reported that the Magpies were in advanced talks for Southampton keeper Aaron Ramsdale. Now, Fabrizio Romano has given the deal his seal of approval with his signature “Here we go” in a post on X. Romano (via David Ornstein) stated that the Ramsdal to Newcastle deal is in place with Southampton. He further wrote that the loan deal also includes a buy option. The Magpies are covering a high loan fee and salary. Ramsdale is set to travel for a medical later this week.

Newcastle reach agreement with Southampton to sign Aaron Ramsdale on a loan deal

Ramsdale appeared in 32 matches across all competitions for Southampton last season. Unfortunately, his team finished at the bottom of the Premier League and has been relegated.

This move is a win-win situation for both the keeper and Newcastle. Ramsdale will get the opportunity to play in the first division and also in the Champions League, whereas the Magpies were in urgent need of a new goalkeeper as a backup for Nick Pope and will be more than happy to finally secure another signing.

Newcastle still need a new centre-back and a striker or even two if Alexander ends up leaving. So while this is a step forward, there’s still a long way to go before Newcastle’s squad is fully ready for the new season.
