Newcastle United have been trying to bring in a new striker since the beginning of the summer transfer window but haven’t been successful till now. A number of the Magpies’ shortlisted candidates have already joined other clubs. This list includes Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Bryan Mbeumo, Mohammed Kudus and long-time Newcastle target Hugo Ekitike as well.
Following these disappointments, Newcastle have recently shifted their focus to Brentford striker Yoane Wissa. The club had already submitted a £25 million bid for the 28-year-old striker but saw that get rejected by Brentford. However it seems that the Magpies are in no mood to let another target slip away.
Fabrizio Romano posted on X stating that Newcastle are ready to return with a fresh new bid for Brentford’s Yoane Wissa. He further wrote that Wissa is interested in the project at St James’ Park and is keen to play in the Champions League. Negotiations are set to continue.
Newcastle prepared to approach Brentford with new bid for Yoane Wissa
Wissa was incredible in the last season for Brentford, scoring 20 goals and providing five assists in 39 matches across all competitions. As a result, apart from Newcastle, a number of other clubs are also lining up to secure the services of the DR Congo international.
Wissa has reportedly left Brentford’s training camp amid growing interest from various clubs. However, the Bees are keen to hold on to the 28-year-old forward, especially after the club have already allowed Mbeumo to move to Manchester United recently.
The DR Congo international could be a perfect addition to the Magpies squad, thanks to his ability to play on both wings in addition to his primary role as a striker. He is expected to partner with Alexander Isak if he joins the Magpies. That said, the Swedish striker’s future remains uncertain, and Wissa could become Newcastle’s primary striker should Isak depart this summer.
All things considered, let’s not get ahead of ourselves, as there are still many uncertainties surrounding the deal. And judging by Newcastle’s track record this summer, no transfer is confirmed until the signature is on paper.
