Eddie Howe believes recent contract talks would help £40M star return to his best

Newcastle United's 2024/25 campaign so far has been pretty disappointing. Although the Magpies club was off to some quick points in the initial games, the side, going winless from the last 4 PL matchdays, now finds themselves in the 9th position. However, Newcastle would want to turn things around as they face Chelsea next at Stamford Bridge.

While none of the major components of the club have been convincingly consistent this season, there have been grave problems for Newcastle upfront. With the club's big names like Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak being out of touch, the Magpies club has only scored 8 goals in as many PL games this season. Clearly, as compared to any other recent campaign, the club's attack force has been much silent this time, on which they need serious improvisations.

However, things can drastically improve if their top 2 forward stars, Gordon and Isak, can have their last-season form back. For the same, while Isak, now close to 100%, would have clearly had a better run, manager Howe believes his winger Anthony Gordon would have a major boost in his form after the recent contract talks.

Recently, Gordon, who agreed to a long-term deal with Newcastle till 2029, is expected to return to his best by boss Eddie Howe soon. The 46-year-old manager is of the notion that speculations over his future might have been taking a major toll on the wing star's performances, who has been a shadow of his previous campaign so far this season.

Expressing his happiness over the player's deal and being optimistic of his form return, Howe said,

From Newcastle's perspective, if Gordon picks up his form soon, it could be a major boost for the club. Given the 23-year-old's chance creation and effectiveness on the ball, the wing star could relieve the Magpies' club's goal-scarce conditions much sooner. Newcastle fans would hope Gordon returns to his best in the upcoming clash against Chelsea, as the club looks forward to some crucial points from the fixture.
