Coming on the back of disappointing performances in the PL campaign, few would have expected the way Newcastle performed against Arsenal. Unlike the last few matchdays, Eddie Howe's side put in a brilliant collective team effort against the Gunners, further proving that their win against Chelsea in the EFL Cup was not a fluke.
Club legend believes £32M Toon star could now permanently secure a starting spot
Countering their ongoing problem of the lack of intensity and aggression, the Magpies club put in a culminated effort, being willing to fight for the important 3 points from the very beginning. Be it the offensive front, their midfield, or the backline, Newcastle stood brilliant in all the compartments, having a number of heroes in the 1-0 win against Arsenal.
Although star forwards Isak and Gordon got much of the media spotlight for their goal contribution, Magpies legend Alan Shearer had special words for prodigy ace Livramento after the fixture. The 21-year-old fullback, having shut down Arsenal star Gabriel Martinelli while guarding the goal, was pivotal in the 1-0 win. Deservedly, Shearer praised the right-back, saying,
"“He was superb as well. I thought both fullbacks were outstanding. Martinelli rarely had a kick, to be honest. A lot of that was down to Livramento.""Alan Shearer
However, while clearly indicating that the PL record scorer was pleased with the Toon star's display, Shearer made a bold claim regarding Livramento's future. For quite some time now, even after performing brilliantly, the 21-year-old full-back has been facing competition with veteran star Trippier for the role, but now Shearer believes he could lead the role. In Shearer's words,
""Kieran Trippier has been great for Newcastle. He’s out injured at the minute, so he [Livramento] has been in and out and not really had the chance to say this is my position. I think that time is now.”"Alan Shearer
As Club legend Shearer pointed out, Trippier's injury sideline could be a massive opportunity for Livramento to secure a spot in the starting XI. Given the reports, Trippier isn't predicted to return until the November international break, meaning that Livramento would have a solid chance to bolster his starting spot chances for the future with an impressive performance against Nottingham Forest. While Newcastle fans would hope for the prodigy star, it remains to be seen if he does become the lead in the right-back role soon.
