Newcastle United are expected to be active in the transfer market again this summer. And this time, it looks like we’re keeping a close eye on the backline.

Last season showed us how quickly things can fall apart at the back when injuries hit.

Losing key defenders for long spells really hurt us, especially when the games came thick and fast.

That’s why adding a strong centre-back is right up there on Eddie Howe’s list.

Now, a new opportunity might be opening up abroad.

AC Milan is planning major changes after appointing their new manager, Massimiliano Allegri.

With that comes the usual shake-up, and not everyone is guaranteed to keep their place in the team.

One experienced defender has already been told he’s unlikely to be first choice next season.

That’s a big deal, especially with the World Cup just over a year away.

Players need to be playing regularly to stay in the frame for National team selection.

And this lad won’t want to sit on the bench in Italy when there are clubs back home watching closely. That’s where Newcastle could step in.

Eddie Howe likes this player. He’s quick, reads the game well, and is confident bringing the ball out from the back exactly what we need to push forward next season.

And according to TBR Football, his current club, AC Milan, are open to letting him go for the right price. The defender in question is Fikayo Tomori.

Still only 27, Tomori has plenty to offer. He’s played in the Champions League, knows what it takes to win trophies as he has done it with AC Milan and still has his best years ahead of him.

With Milan willing to talk, this could be a smart piece of business for the Magpies if we move fast. Let’s see if the club makes a move for Fikayo Tomori.
