Newcastle United are entering a big summer. With Champions League football on the cards again, the club needs to be smart; not just with who they bring in, but also with who they let go.
Trimming the squad and moving on from players who are no longer key to the project is just as important.
Here are five players Newcastle really should consider selling this summer.
5 players Newcastle United have to sell more than anyone else this summer
1. Matt Targett
It’s been a frustrating time for Targett. After making his loan move permanent in 2022, things just haven’t clicked.
Injuries and competition for places have pushed him down the pecking order.
With Lewis Hall now looking like the future at left-back, it might be time for Targett to find a fresh start elsewhere.
2. Kieran Trippier
Trippier has been a fantastic servant to the club. But at 34, and with younger options like Tino Livramento showing real promise, Newcastle need to think long-term.
Trippier’s experience is valuable, but his high wages and recent dip in form suggest this might be the right time to part ways if the right offer comes in.
3. Emil Krafth
Krafth has been a solid squad player, but he’s never quite nailed down a regular starting role.
With his contract recently extended, the club may be protecting his value ahead of a possible sale.
He’s reliable but surplus to requirements now, especially if Newcastle want to freshen up their bench depth.
4. Sean Longstaff
A local lad and academy graduate, Longstaff has had his moments.
But consistency has been an issue, and with Newcastle looking to take the next step, midfield upgrades are surely on the summer agenda.
Longstaff still has value, and a move might be good for both parties at this point.
5. Isaac Hayden
Hayden has been out on loan and clearly isn’t in Eddie Howe’s plans. He’s been a good professional, but injuries and the club’s rise have made his role obsolete.
It’s best for everyone if Hayden moves on permanently this summer.
Newcastle need to be bold this window. Saying goodbye to familiar faces is never easy, but progress often demands it.
These five players have had their moments, but it might be time for a fresh chapter for them and for the club.
