- Brazilian star Joelinton, not going on the International break, has time to work on delaying his one-game suspension.
Newcastle United's 2024/25 campaign has been a mixture of two tales. While on some matchdays, the side has been impressively competent, giving flashes of their best levels, they have been rather sloppy on others. Similar to the club has been the case for 28-year-old powerhouse Toon star, who has been quite inconsistent this summer.

Signed for £40 million in 2019 from Hoffenheim, ace midfielder Joelinton has been one of the consistent mainstays since his arrival. However, this season the Brazilian ace midfielder has been rather inconsistent for the Magpies club. While he did have a brilliant outing in the season opener against Southampton, the player has been on a rough patch for the next few games.
Although he did eventually improve, giving one of his masterclass performances against Manchester City, he had come on the verge of facing a game suspension. As has been the player's physical playstyle, the midfielder was on 4 yellow cards after only six PL appearances, receiving one against Man City. Considering this, the Everton fixture was extremely important for him, and he feels quite pleased with his performance.
In the club's overall disappointing performance, called appropriately 'awful' by PL legend Alan Shearer, Joelinton looked much improved on disciplinary terms while being impactful in their overall display. Committing a single foul in the game, the midfielder not only delayed a one-game suspension but also looked in better control of his play.
After the fixture at Goodison Park, Joelinton reflected on what needed to be incorporated by him to delay the inevitable game suspension. Joelinton mentioned,
"“It’s about me controlling myself better on the pitch, being more calm. Not taking away the way I play, but being more calm with the ref and not giving away the easy free-kicks.""
- Joelinton
Moreover, the Brazilian ace midfielder seemed quite pleased with his performance against Everton, saying,
"“Against Everton, I controlled better myself, and I was pleased not to get a yellow card.”"
- Joelinton
Now that the Premier League action has halted, given that the Brazilian powerhouse isn't going for international duty, the player gets time to work on his discipline with manager Eddie Howe. Newcastle fans would hope that their 28-year-old ace improves on the aspect, delaying the inevitable one-game suspension as long as possible.
