Newcastle come up against Chelsea in the Premier League today. They will hope for three points to help their pursuit of finishing in the top four again this season.

Picking up a win today would further demonstrate that it is not all doom and gloom at St James’ Park since we are still within a shot of the Champions League knockout stage and being in the top four by the end of the calendar year.

But who have been the 3 best players under Eddie Howe this year?

The 3 best Newcastle players under Eddie Howe so far this season

Anthony Gordon

Anthony Gordon has been our saving grace on the right-wing so far this season. The English star has been one of our most hardworking players and he doesn’t seem to show any signs of fatigue regardless of how much he is used under Eddie Howe.

Covering Harvey Barnes who is out injured, Gordon has put in some exceptional displays in some of our biggest games this year, including against Arsenal where he scored the winning goal.

Fabian Schar

Fabian Schar has been without his usual partner Sven Botman for a lot of this season so far, but he’s done well to be 1 and a half times the player he is accustomed to being. Schar has been one of our most consistent performers and put in an excellent display on the biggest of stages against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League where he scored THAT goal.

Kieran Trippier

Picking up a new role of late to cover the injured Dan Burn at left-back, Trippier has been one of our most reliable performers this season. He is also the assist leader at St James’ Park and has contributed to some of our best displays. He’s my player of the season so far, but it’s no surprise given how important he has been to us since signing.
