There is a clear and obvious Newcastle transfer policy, but given that this is a January window like no other, they may have to break that policy.

For once, young Newcastle fans may actually wish for January to come round sooner rather than later. After all, as much as the festive spirit will soon become ripe, the biggest christmas present which Eddie Howe can wish for is a squad of injury-free players.

Failing that, he will have to wait a week later for the January transfer window to open, where he is bound to have many options which will hopefully be reimbursed by the fruitful board. The main position of need is to sign a midfielder, but defensive options are also important given the growing injury pile in this department.

However, we must not forget about our need to sign a striker. As much as Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson are reliable goal scorers, they aren’t reliable when it comes to match fitness. In fact, a look at the Callum Wilson injury history and the Alexander Isak injury history will show you they are far from reliable in this regard.

Indeed, according to report Joel Bland, a striker is desired at St James’ Park in the summer transfer window. However, he has ruled out shouts that Hugo Ekitike is the striker desired in January and instead, Eddie Howe would like to sign Serhou Guirassy as the Bundesliga forward is on fire at the moment, scoring goals for fun to put it frankly.

Bland does state that signing Guirassy would go against our transfer policy, of which I assume he means to sign young and promising players. According to NUFC News though, Eddie Howe should be urged to override this policy since this is a transfer market unlike any other given the injury crisis.
