A Premier League pundit has urged this out-of-favour Man City to leave the champions to “walk straight into” Eddie Howe’s side at Newcastle.

Newcastle United will be active in the January transfer window. The two positions they need to strengthen seem to be centre midfield and full-back, given that injury blows have exploited their vulnerabilities in these positions in the last month or so.

Eddie Howe has done a great job at grinding our results despite the looming injury crisis but even he will be feeling the pressure to perform in the transfer market. With fans calling for some new players to be signed, he will certainly receive the financial backing from the lucrative board since he is trusted to do the job.

Gabriel Agbonlahor says Kalvin Phillips would “walk into” the Newcastle team

Above all other players, there is one player who gets the most limelight when it comes to Newcastle transfer rumours. That player is Kalvin Phillips, the England national team cult hero who finds himself out-of-favour in the current Manchester City system.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Premier League expert Gabriel Agbonlahor has urged Kalvin Phillips to leave Man City in the January transfer window. Further, he added that Phillips should prioritise a move to Newcastle since it is a side he would “walk straight into”.

As much as I would welcome Phillips with open arms, no player “walks straight into” this midfield. Of course, Gabby is referring to the Sandro Tonali suspension, meaning there is an open role in the centre of the park for the Premier League experienced player.

However, there is plenty of depth and with the potential shown by Lewis Miley, there is never a guaranteed place in this starting eleven. Phillips will need to prove his worth if we do sign him, just like everybody else.

Do you think Kalvin Phillips has a spot in the Eddie Howe starting eleven?
