Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe has rivalled three Premier League competitors as he scouts a perfect Harvey Barnes backup option.

Newcastle United are going through an injury crisis right now and despite Eddie Howe’s best efforts to play Tetris with his starting lineup, there are clear holes which may affect our performances until the end of the season.

Luckily, though, the January transfer window will soon approach and it couldn’t come at a better time for us as a club. The lads have done an excellent job at picking up points despite the ongoing injury concerns but certainly, we are playing with a depleted squad and it seems to be having an impact on the available players, if Kieran Trippier’s altercation with a fan is anything to go by.

There are some obvious names which are thrown around the rumour mill, including Kalvin Phillips of Manchester City who seems to be our number one transfer target for January. However, there are other positions which must be filled by Eddie Howe.

Newcastle: Eddie Howe rivals English trio for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia

According to a report by 90min, Newcastle are part of a quartet of Premier League clubs who are interested in signing Khvicha Kvaratskhelia from Napoli. The 22-year-old winger was in action for his country Georgia in their recent 3-1 defeat to Spain, a game in which Kvaratskhelia was on the scoresheet. It was in this match where Newcastle, Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United had scouts watching the left-winger.

He is emerging as one of the finest talents in football and truthfully, it’s no surprise to see so many big clubs alongside us interested in signing him. With Harvey Barnes out for a while as one of our long-term injuries, I would welcome Kvaratskhelia with open arms.

Do you think Newcastle will beat their Premier League competition to sign Khvicha Kvaratskhelia?
