Newcastle faced Dortmund in the fourth match of their Champions League campaign. Here are the Newcastle player ratings vs Dortmund…

Newcastle player ratings vs Dortmund

Nick Pope – 7/10.

Made some great saves in the first half and the opening goal wasn’t his fault. He could’ve positioned himself better for the second goal, but there was no stopping it really. He’ll feel hard done by not to get the clean sheet.

Kieran Trippier – 6/10. Played on both sides – In the first-half, he was a right-back and in the second-half, he slotted in at left-back for a little while as Lewis Hall was subbed off. Either way, he played well as we all know how versatile he is. Got forward much more in the second half.

Jamaal Lascelles – 5/10. Had a few good moments and a few bad ones. Ultimately, it was a difficult night for the captain, who looked out of his depth. Hopefully he’ll fight back stronger in the Premier League at the weekend.

Fabian Schar – 6.5/10. Played brilliantly at the back. He was assured and saw out a lot of the Dortmund pressure. He was missing in action for the Dortmund counter attack, but this is a risk you have to take and it was likely advised by Howe. Another full ninety in the bank for Schar.

Lewis Hall – 4/10. Didn’t look fantastic, I’ll be honest. Adeyami was running rings round him, hence why he was subbed off at half-time. However, it was good to see the youngster get a runout in this competition as he has a bright future ahead of him.

  • SUB: Miguel Almiron – 6/10. Definitely had a say on the match and proved why he should have started when he came on. Both defensively and offensively, his second-half appearance was appreciated.
