Eddie Howe receives a significant boost ahead of Dortmund vs Newcastle
According to a report by Kicker (via Sport Witness), Emre Can has become a serious doubt for the match. The Borussia Dortmund midfielder, who played in the reverse fixture, was not in Dortmund’s final training session yesterday. This means that even if he is fit for the match, it’s unlikely he’ll start since it’s been a race against time.
Eddie Howe, then, can plan his midfield strategy accordingly. As we learned in the home fixture, Can is a commanding midfielder and his colossal approach is hard to work around. Not only is he a juggernaut defensively, but he is technically gifted and able to pull off some great passes. With Can missing, it is a huge boost for Newcastle and a huge blow for Dortmund.
It was an injury sustained at St James Park which has caused problems for the Dortmund captain in this match. Although we are not the fanbase who celebrates injuries of the other team, we can take comfort in the knowledge that we aren’t the only team with injury issues.
We at Newcastle Toons wish Emre Can a speedy recovery, and hope he’s fit and ready for Dortmund’s next match.
