Miguel Almiron broke a record against world-class Arsenal defender
By Kian Long
Newcastle were the first team to beat Arsenal in the Premier League this season, but Miguel Almiron did something impressive on his own accord.
Say what you want about Newcastle beating Arsenal – Mikel Arteta has probably said it himself already. Either way you look at it, Newcastle were the dominant team in the win, and if anybody deserved the three points, it was always Eddie Howe’s side.
Miguel Almiron broke a record during Newcastle vs Arsenal
But the result aside, there was one moment in the match where our very own Miguel Almiron did something which, prior to the match, was thought to be unthinkable to most.
As reported by stat expert Squawka, Miguel Almiron became the first player in the Premier League to dribble past William Saliba.
We know that Almiron is very good and technical with the ball at his feet, but it looked like an impossible task against William Saliba. The Arsenal defender is one of the best in his craft and there’s a reason why Premier League attackers find it so difficult to dribble past him.
I won’t come on here and say that Almiron ran things around Saliba all game – That would be nonsense. With respect to Arsenal, Saliba was one of their better performers and he will feel disheartened not to get the clean sheet.
What this stat does show, though, is the big game player which Miguel Almiron has become. Arsenal isn’t the only big opposition he’s impressed against this season – Let’s not forget that magical night when our Parisian friends visited.
