Newcastle will host Arsenal at St James Park on Saturday in the Premier League. Ahead of the match, Eddie Howe has shared some bad Newcastle injury news.

Newcastle United face Arsenal at home this weekend in the Premier League. It’s going to be a tough match, for sure, but Eddie Howe’s men will be confident after their dominant display at Old Trafford in midweek.

Eddie Howe is expected to field his strongest possible eleven, although he may have to factor in some rotation and caution with the game against Borussia Dortmund in midweek. A quick turnaround of Champions League fixtures will affect both sides.

Newcastle injury news vs Arsenal – Eddie Howe confirms “big blow” to Matt Targett

Those who watched the game in midweek would’ve seen the injury to Matt Targett early doors. Unless, of course, you were still making your way through the turnstiles, since it only happened within the opening ninety seconds.

Long story short, the Matt Targett injury is thought to be one to his hamstring. Low and behold, he will be missing from action in the game against Arsenal at the weekend, as Eddie Howe has confirmed it was a “big blow” and the injury was a “bizarre” one – as per Football FanCast.

Indeed, the injury to Targett is a big blow for Newcastle. As mentioned, they would like to rotate their squad as much as possible without a detriment to the team tactics. Targett would have certainly been involved in the squad rotation as a reliable squad player.

Unfortunately for Eddie Howe, Targett is simply another number to add to the injury pile at St James Park – A pile which looks to be growing day upon day.
