A strong bench helped us

Heading into the match, we didn’t play our full strength XI – I think that’s fair to say. This is why it was a big surprise to see United line up fairly strongly. But this actually worked in our favour. The early substitute for Miguel Almiron was very handy and it obviously resulted in our opening goal, but the others were exceptional too.

The five substitutes we made could have easily started the match, so when we went ahead and brought them on, it seemed like we were destined to win and this ended up being the case.

Miguel Almiron, Bruno Guimaraes, Callum Wilson, Dan Burn and Kieran Trippier were all introduced to the game, during three different intervals. Certainly, this helped to solidify the attack, midfield and defence. Furthermore, it’s always a bonus that these players didn’t have to start the match, so they’ll feel fresher for that Arsenal game which is coming up.
