Jacob Murphy injury history and updates

Jacob Murphy shoulder injury, October 2023

Unfortunately, Murphy picked up his first significant injury in Geordie black and white towards the beginning of the 2023/24 season. After starting the season impressively with more game time and some minutes in the Champions League of all competitions, Murphy became sidelined through a shoulder injury.

Jacob Murphy came on against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League, with the hopes of changing the game around since his side were a goal down. However, it wasn’t a cameo to remember for Murphy, since he was subbed back off only five minutes later through a shoulder injury. It remains to be seen the extent to which he will be ruled out.

UPDATE #1 – In the following Premier League game against Wolves, Murphy was completely ruled out and not involved in the squad. According to a report by Goal, Eddie Howe thinks the injury to Murphy is “serious”.

In terms of the next match against Manchester United in the EFL Cup, it doesn’t look great. The report linked above suggests that Murphy won’t make it in time for the fixture on Wednesday Nov 1, 2023. So much so, that in our Newcastle predicted lineup vs Man United, we have omitted Murphy for Miguel Almiron to start.

UPDATE #2 – Jacob Murphy requires surgery to his shoulder, as per The Northern Echo. Therefore, it’s predicted that he will be sidelined for around three months – A big blow for Eddie Howe.
