Scott McTominay, a talented home-grown player, would be a seamless addition to the St James’ Park squad to replace Sandro Tonali. The Scottish midfielder is versatile, capable of playing as a number 6 or an 8, providing depth to the team and serving as a reliable backup to our standout player, Mr Longstaff.

McTominay’s position at Old Trafford has somewhat diminished, leading to speculation about a potential transfer during the summer window. However, due to Manchester United’s poor performances, he has earned a regular starting position and has even scored crucial goals to help turn their form around in recent weeks.

This has alleviated the pressure on Erik Ten Haag, the manager, who is likely keen to retain the youth product as an integral part of his squad.

Another promising English talent that can replace Sandro Tonali is Conor Gallagher who was also linked with a transfer during the summer. However, similar to McTominay, his impressive performances and importance to Chelsea have elevated his status within their ever-evolving squad.

Gallagher has even captained the team this season, and there are reports suggesting he is willing to extend his contract beyond 2025 to remain at at Stamford Bridge.

When considering potential options in continental Europe, one player that stands out is Khéphren Thuram. The French midfielder, despite not yet registering a goal or an assist in his seven appearances, has played a significant role in OGC Nice’s success in Ligue 1.

Flirted with the club before the Tonali announcement and numerous sources claimed that he was liked by Newcastle’s head of recruitment, Steve Nickson.

There have been indications of interest from the hierachy, as well as Liverpool and PSG. However, acquiring Thuram from the south of France in January would likely require a substantial bid.

Should serious spending be required then the links for Amadou Onana have been widely sounded for the small change of £70 million. Too much money making this an unlikely transfer, however with Everton requiring funds ahead of their stadium build, there’s a possibility to drive this transfer fee down.

It is important to note that Onana has had inconsistent performances and occasional mistakes, although he is known for his ability to perform well in important matches. A risk too much for that price tage.

Regardless of who replaces Sandro Tonali, the Newcastle community will fully support our Italian maestro in the upcoming months and hope our “Moretti drinking and spaghetti eating” superstar is black and white sooner rather than later.
